Riversaver Pontoon
The Riversaver pontoon highlights the charm of rivers and nearby villages by repurposing collected river plastic into floating platforms with secure moorings and informational boards, creating a connection between waterways and local attractions.
Anyone who has ever participated in a river cleanup has also experienced all the beauty of the river, not only the litter lying around. A Riversaver pontoon aims to show this beauty and the sights of the riverside towns and villages to others, and in a very creative way: by using plastic waste collected from the river. They are connected to the shore by a ramp, and have information boards showing nearby attractions for hikers, as well as handy information about shops and accommodation within walking distance.
Usually, the villages and sights along rivers are separated from the water tourists by dams and dense floodplain forests. There are hardly any moorings, hardly any information signs, but there is plenty to stop and admire. The Riversaver pontoon is a gateway between waterways and coastal attractions. They are mini-points with information boards and safe mooring facilities near the villages along rivers.
These structures are also a symbol of the revival of plastic waste as a building material. The floating capacity of the pontoons is ensured by plastic bottles collected from the rivers, while the deck of the pontoons is made from river plastic that has been shredded, melted and pressed into sheets. The resulting "plastic board" is then can be cut to size, does not break or shred, is flexible and resistant to sunlight.
